BENEFIT SALE

On Saturday, April 21, 2012
5% of Uhuru Furniture’s
proceeds will benefit
programs of our sister
organization the
All African People’s
Development and
Empowerment Project!

This benefit is in conjunction with the Africa's Future in African Hands Tour featuring Nurse Midwife Mary Koroma.

Who is Nurse Mary?
Nurse Midwife Mary Koroma has dedicated her life to saving the lives of mothers and babies in her native Sierra Leone, West Africa where one out of every eight mothers dies in childbirth. She is Director of the All African People’s Development and Empowerment Project (AAPDEP) in Sierra Leone and leader of the Infant and Maternal Health Project with over 500 members.

The tour focuses on the issue of infant and maternal health in Africa and the U.S., showcasing the power of African people working together to develop African communities – including food production, schools and community commerce – as the key to a healthy future. According to tour organizers, “despite the great barriers to health care faced by Sierra Leone’s people, this is not a tour emphasizing charity and hopelessness”. Instead, Nurse Mary will be highlighting how African people in Sierra Leone, and beyond, have organized in their interest to overcome this issue.

"The Bay Area Birth Justice Fair will be held to support and share information about infant and maternal health in the U.S. Even in the U.S., the lives of mothers and babies are being lost at alarming rates. The fair will also support Nurse Mary Koroma on her tour– in support of the AAPDEP Birth and Health Clinic-Sierra Leone."
